Government employees at the NIH’s National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders are “working to develop a mouse model of human stuttering.” To do this, they are insert genes associated with stuttering into baby mice who then stutter when they squeak. The mice were also forced to swim in tanks with no visible escape, electroshocked, and subjected to other procedures to measure their behavior before they’re killed and cut apart.
