What a night! What an event! Thank you so much to everyone who joined our May 6 emergency telephone town hall with Waste Warrior U.S. Senator Martha McSally (R-AZ). If you couldn’t make the event, or you’d like to re-experience the magic, we’ve got a recording here:
Some highlights include Senator McSally describing the time she saved a neighbor’s dog one Thanksgiving, in what turned out to be an extremely involved and ambitious rescue mission.
Senator McSally also described the bond she shares with her extremely adorable rescue dog Boomer—and how this love for dogs helps inspire her work to put an end to the VA’s cruel and painful dog experiments.
“I’m a dog lover,” Senator McSally said. “I’m a veteran myself, served 26 years. When I heard that the VA—that’s where I get my care—was using our taxpayer dollars to buy puppies, intentionally sicken and injure them, and experiment, and then kill them, I was just appalled at this insane cruelty and the waste of it all. And so I wanted to make sure that we put an end to this.”
She then spoke words we can all relate to: “I wouldn’t be able to stay sane in my life without the love of a dog. And so I’m so grateful to have Boomer in my life.

Of course it wasn’t all dog talk. (Well, it could have been, but it wasn’t. There were many important topics at hand.)
We got into the Senator’s efforts to cut other taxpayer-funded animal experiments, such as those the National Institutes of Health paid for at China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology. Senator McSally was critical in defunding those dangerous animal experiments.
Why was doing so, so important? “Cutting these Wuhan grants is going to help animals, it’s going to preserve taxpayer dollars, and it’s going to make Americans—and people all over the world—a whole lot safer,” said Senator McSally.

Senator McSally also gave details about why she is a committed Waste Warrior…and how essential your voice, your help, is too.
“You’re all Waste Warriors,” Senator McSally said. “This is something that together, we really can make a difference. We can make a difference in the lives of these animals. We can stop cruelty. We can be good stewards of taxpayer resources. This is a unifying issue.”
Please, give the telephone town hall a listen! Seriously, if nothing else, you really do want to hear the Senator talk about the time she rescued her neighbor’s dog. It’s a *great* story.
