WCW-Backed PAAW Act Will Save Pets from Painful NIH-Funded Experiments

Citing White Coat Waste Project (WCW) investigations, Reps. Nancy Mace (R-SC) and Jared Moskowitz (D-FL) have just introduced the Preventing Animal Abuse and Waste (PAAW) Act (HR 7958) to defund all of the National Institutes of Health’s painful experiments on dogs and cats and require more transparency and accountability about all it’s testing on pets.

All told, 48,000 dogs and over 14,000 cats were imprisoned in US labs, according to the most recent available federal reports. Of those, over 13,000 dogs and 4,700 cats were subjected to painful experiments—many without any pain relief. Most of these cruel and wasteful tests are funded with our tax dollars via the NIH.

 

The WCW-backed PAAW Act is the first bill ever introduced by Congress to completely defund painful NIH testing on dogs and cats!

Congress just enacted historic WCW-backed legislation to defund and eliminate all testing on dogs, cats, and primates at the Department of Veterans Affairs, but the NIH has no such plan. Reps. Mace and Moskowitz both supported the VA effort.

Now, we need to pass the PAAW Act because the NIH still funds more painful testing on dogs and cats than any other federal agency.  The bill would defund the most painful experiments on dogs and cats bankrolled by the NIH and require reports on how much the agency is wasting to pay for outdated and inhumane testing on pets.

Rep. Mace and WCW previously joined forces to successfully cut NIH funding for the Kremlin’s cruel treadmill experiments on kittens and we shut down the NIH’s plan to waste $1.8 million for runny nose experiments on puppies, which Dr. Fauci personally admitted were unnecessary because alternatives were available. Rep. Moskowitz has also worked with WCW to lead legislation to defund the NIH’s cruel in-house septic shock experiments on dogs and demand details about its dog and cat testing.

 

 

 

In addition to co-leads Reps. Mace and Moskowitz, the PAAW Act is also being introduced by Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY), Troy Nehls (R-TX), Marcy Kaptur (D-OH), Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), Buddy Carter (R-GA), Greg Steube (R-FL), and Dina Titus (D-NV).

As you might expect, polls show that taxpayers of all political stripes oppose publicly-funded pet abuse!
